Asbestos suits filed in Madison County

Four lawsuits were filed on behalf of two plaintiffs who claimed they were exposed to large amounts of asbestos and silica.

One plaintiff was employed as a painter, plasterer, and sandblaster in Illinois from 1973-2003. He worked for an industrial paint service and claims that on June 1, 2005, he was diagnosed with bilateral asbestos-related pleural disease. The other plaintiff was employed as a strand helper in Illinois from 1977-2005. She was also diagnosed on June 1, 2005, but with asbestosis. Asbestos work faces audit

With three lawsuits pending and $12.65 million more than expected going towards asbestos abatement at New Canaan High School, the town has decided to audit the entire renovation project. The cost of the project has shot up from approximately $62 million to $75 million which is a 21 percent increase. The Town requested proposals from three well known firms a few weeks ago and is currently interviewing two. (Read More About asbestos abatement at New Canaan High School)
