First British Asbestos Centre in the Pipeline!
The British government is assessing the possibility of creating a National Centre for Asbestos Diseases and are currently in talks concerning possible funding for such a centre.
According to one medical expert, asbestos related disease such as mesothelioma, are the nation's number one public health disaster, yet government-funded research has been woefully inadequate. This despite the fact that mesothelioma is invariably fatal, with a median life expectancy of six to nine months from diagnosis.
The possibility of a dedicated centre is being welcomed by campaigners, who are eagerly awaiting the results of this weeks discussions.
