Asbestos removal at Dallas church
Preservationists are hoping to save a church in Dallas have some reassurance after a delay in the destruction planned to happen after asbestos is removed from the site.
An asbestos removal project is currently underway at the Oak Cliff Christian Church building. The building was initially headed towards demolition after removal was completed, but a new agreement in court has delayed the demolition until at least after early Feb., according to this local news site.
Asbestos removal is important in buildings that have asbestos and are slated for demolition. If asbestos is not removed properly, there is a risk that the dangerous fibers will be released into the air. Even brief exposure to asbestos has been linked to health problems, and releasing the fibers in the air could be harmful to people in the area. Asbestos has been linked to mesothelioma, a rare but often deadly form of cancer.
