California to receive asbestos removal funds

In a bill signed last month, President Obama allocated millions of dollars to clean up an area around Mount Umunhum in northern California. The project will include asbestos removal.

The site requires cleanup from a former Air Force station that was located in the area, which left toxins in the ground and water and waste including asbestos in abandoned buildings, according to this article.

The total amount, $3.2 million, will be used to clean up and reclaim the land. Asbestos removal can be expensive because it must be done safely by trained professionals. Since moving asbestos can release dangerous fibers into the air, proper safety equipment must be used.

Asbestos has been linked to numerous health problems, including mesothelioma, a rare and often deadly form of cancer. If you believe you have been exposed to asbestos, even for a short period of time, you should seek medical attention and contact a personal injury lawyer immediately.
