Highway Deaths Among Construction Workers Increase

According to an article in the Economic Report, in 2005 one in four workplace deaths occurred at highway construction sites. Even more troubling are the Bureau of Labor statistics which report that in 2005, over 1,428 highway workers died while at work.

The number of workers killed by passing vehicles rose to 390 in 2005. The US government is making efforts to avoid these deaths by using better quality pavement, thereby reducing the need for frequent repair and by encouraging the public to practice defensive and safe driving, especially in work zones.
