OSHA Fines Company Over Trench Collapse

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has fine NCS Sewer $1,050 for not having a written employee safety program for trench work and for not training employees to recognize the hazards of working in trenches. The sewer company was involved in a trench collapse that injured Brian Nolan last November. Nolan was trapped for hours but survived with only minor injuries. NCS has not yet responded to OSHA's demands.

OSHA Fining Company over Trench Collapse

OSHA officials say that since Nolan is a co-owner of NCS Sewer, the company cannot be fined the $7,000 they would be subjected to had Nolan been an employee. If NCS owners pay the fine and correct the violations, OSHA will consider the case closed; however, if NCS does not pay, the case will be turned over to a collections agency.
